Wow it is December!! One last month before we are in 2016! December is always known for being so busy, so I try to keep that in mind when writing out my goals….I also try to remember that it is a time of preparation and anticipation…it is important to take time to let all the wonders of the holidays and the reason for the season sink in…and with little ones in tow the holidays can be so magical and alive…don’t forget to remember that when the hustle and bustle is wearing you down…(and I am writing this to remind myself also!) 😉 Here was last month’s Goals post- Nov Goals/Oct Recap in case you wanted to check out the original post and below I recap November’s goals! 🙂
(And for more on how I set up my goals read Goal Setting 101 where I give advice on how to start writing your goals more efficiently and with more intention.)
A review over my November 2015 goals-
Update Baby Books (carry over from October 🙂 ) Yes I finally updated both baby books and Paisley’s book is officially done :-/ not sure how I really feel about that, but the book ends at age 5…I added more pics and now it is “complete”
Make sure both Seth and I have a one on one “date” with Paisley. We both were able to spend some one on one time with our first born last month…Seth took Paisley to get donuts and to Cabela’s (win win for both since he loves the store and it is like a museum/playground for her 🙂 ) …and I was able to spend some time with her at home decorating her December calendar and playing sight word games 🙂
Schedule our November Family Day (as of now it is Sat Nov 21st!) And it was on Nov. 21st! It was Brantley’s first hair cut so we made it a family affair…and after we went to get ice cream!
Make our Thanksgiving plan with family (hoping to do this soon so it is not last minute) Yes we made plans soon after I wrote this post (the original post)…we traveled to see Seth’s family in IA this year on Thanksgiving!
Date with Seth (I am in charge of planning this month…I have already scheduled babysitting for Sat Nov 14th and it will be a day date!) 🙂 Yes! We had a relaxing day in the Old Market area of Omaha…many unique shops/restuarants, etc…we took advantage of the awesome weather (and Starbucks holiday drink special BOGO deal!) 🙂
Attend 1 NFP apt together Yes and again this program is so beneficial to us…I love that it is a partnership (as it should be!)
Write a love note to Seth. Yes I did do this, although I have to admit that it was at the very end of the month and was literally just a short little note…I am talking a sentence long…but hey it was a note and it was done with love…I propped it on the coffee pot for him to see when he got home from work- it made him smile…mission accomplished! 🙂
*Sit and talk together for at least 10-20 minutes after kids are in bed. (I have found that we tend to go off and do our own thing and I want to build our connection and communication so just the two of us touching base at the end of each day will be a good thing!) This is an area where we need to keep working….it is so easy for us to go off to our own areas and/or to-do’s after the kids go to bed…we need to chat even if for 5-10 minutes just the two of us…I notice a difference when we make the effort…
*Get 6 or more glasses of water in each day! (carry over from last month) Another area where I am working…I seem to get 4-5 glasses on good days, but need to get that last 1-2 in! Hoping I end the year figuring this one out!
*Attend 3 or more Jazzercise classes each week! (carry over from last month) Some weeks I get this and others I do not…it really depends on our week…life happens and it sometimes gets cut out of my day…I do want to keep trying for this goal…especially as an amazing stress reliever!
*Create a prayer/morning time notebook-basket. (Again I love my ‘morning time’, so anything to streamline that time and allow me even more time to enjoy my reading, etc. is amazing! I have read some people have special notebooks and journals for their gratitude, prayers and bible studies so my hope is to create something like this and contain it all in a little basket by where I sit so it is easy to get to, get into and start my daily ‘morning time’….this is a carry over from last month!) This will be carried over into next month again since I did not get it done….I have been devoted to my morning time for the most part but would like to be more organized with it…
Start the book “Unglued” by Lysa Turkuest and the coinciding online bible study through Proverbs 31 Ministries. (I am putting the Motherhood devotional on hold until I am done with this study and then starting it back up again.) Yes! I am loving this book and the coinciding bible study! I am actually finishing it up this week as it was a 6 week program! Read more about the book in my post here- Monthly Reading November 2015
*Continue with our Dave Ramsey baby steps….work on baby step #2, which is paying off all non-mortgage debt…I know we will not be able to get through the entire step this month, but the goal is to get 2 of the 4 debts paid off this month using the debt snowball! Yes and no on this one…we have been faithfully following our steps in Dave Ramsey, however we have not officially paid off the two debts I mentioned…we are actually getting ready to get them done this month!
Create a Christmas budget and continue to put $ in savings for it…completing the savings this month! Yes! And it has made a world of difference from last year! We will not owe any money for Christmas after Christmas and we set an amount for every gift, event, etc. and know when we are done purchasing we are done…it really is very freeing!
*Finish all insurance changes! Through our Dave Ramsey class we learned about some changes to our various insurance policies that we should make plus some we needed to add…it is somewhat of a lengthy process but our goal is to have it all done and set this month! Another yes and no…we did make most of the changes, but still need to look into one and set one more up…it is a process like I said…
*Continue to organize the basement and closets by donating and selling extra stuff! (this comes at a great time since I need to switch out closets for the colder weather!) This is an ongoing process also…I did go through the kids’ closet and my own so that is done and feels so good! I am starting to think I need a whole weekend to declutter the basement…this may be part of my new year goals!
Set up an email subscription on this blog! Yes!! I am so excited that I got this set up!! Please subscribe if you haven’t! Click on the box at the bottom of this post to get weekly updates and recent posts!
*Read two business related books. (My plan is to read How to Blog for Profit Without Selling Your Soul by Ruth Soukup and Money Making Mom by Crystal Paine) These are on my “to read” pile…some days I do not have an opportunity to read beyond my morning time reading…something I am going to try to fit in by next year…
Complete Crystal Paine’s Make Over Your Calendar course. Yes! And I enjoyed all the resources and help from someone so successful! I took a few bits of info from it to apply to my calendar, but will wait and see on some others…
*Set up social media accounts for this blog…my goal is to get Facebook and Instagram first! This will hopefully be set up in the next month or two….I do have an RSS feed you can subscribe to however 🙂 Slowly but surely….
As I just stated it is a ‘slowly but surely’ practice with my goals…imperfect progress I like to say…I crossed off many goals, but I also have many that are going to be carried over! It will be good to look over my yearly goals at the end of the month (if you want to see them here they are: My 2015 Goals and write my 2016 Goals along with Jan Goals!
In the meantime, here are my December Goals:
*Family Day- and it is set for Sat Dec 12th! We are seeing Santa and going to lunch (this has become a yearly tradition) 🙂
*Advent wreath lighting and coinciding devotional reading every night until the 25th…this is something new I added this year to our Advent/Christmas celebrations…I really want to focus on the preparation for Christ’s coming and savor the anticipation of it all…I got a beautiful Advent “wreath” on Amazon with a gift card I had earned with bankcard points :-)…I say “wreath” because it is really a candle stand with a nativity in the middle and I also purchased a devotional that has a short page to read each night (a bible verse, a short story, singing and prayer)…and we have been enjoying it every night before we eat dinner!
*Advent calendar- Paisley loves to “move the snowman” to the next day and see whether she has a piece of candy or a fun note inside that days pouch…(the notes usually tell about something we are going to do that day associated with the holiday season)
*One on one time with Paisley…I have not scheduled this yet, but I am leaning toward both Seth and I taking Paisley out by herself to do something fun…stay tuned next month for my update on what we do! 🙂
*Date Night- Seth plans! We actually already went on our fun date night, but I will leave you in suspense until next month as to what we did!
*Attend 1 NFP apt together!
*Write a love note to Seth! (I like trying to make these different every month…thinking a fun poem this month!)
*Keep working on the sitting down to talk for 10-15 minutes after the kids go to bed…this is a carry over from last month!
*6+ glasses of water per day (carry over from last month!)
*3+ Jazzercise classes per week (carry over from last month!)
*Finish the book “Unglued” by Lysa Terkeurst and pick up where I left off on the Motherhood devotional (Walking with God in the Season of Motherhood by Melissa Kruger) I was reading and finish that this month.
*Create a prayer/morning time notebook and basket (carry over from last month!)
*Make significant progress on Baby Step 2 of the Dave Ramsey program we are in (baby step 2 is paying off all non mortgage debt) by paying off 2 debts and at least half of one of the remaining two. (carry over from last month!)
*Finish the rest of the insurance changes we need to make (carry over from last month!)
*Keep organizing! I plan on filing more papers away and clearing clutter…selling/donating extra stuff!
*Write our annual Christmas letter! I started writing a fun letter to send out in our cards after Seth and I got married…I love looking back on the past letters and it has become a tradition to have me write one every year! (this is also a family goal!)
*Finish all remaining Premier jewelry orders and send in by Dec 13th. (I want to make sure everyone gets their items by Christmas!)
*Read 2 business books. (carry over from last month!)
*Work on sharing and publicizing this blog! So if you like what you read, please share so others can read it too 🙂
*Research and start social media for this blog…(Facebook, Instagram and Pinterest) I am not sure I will get them all set up, but we shall see….this might be carried over to January 😉
What are your goals for December? I would love to hear them!
